Drill Bit Depth Setup Block for Doweling

This setup block takes the measuring out of setting your drill bit depth when doing dowel joinery with common thickness material for dowels up to 3/8" in diameter. The depths are set with the short side and long side of a joint in mind (in cases where this is applicable) and with 2mm of extra space on each side of the dowel for glue (totaling an additional 4mm of length factored in). Additionally, the diameter of the holes helps you determine which size dowels you should be using for what material thickness. For example, in 1/2" material, 1/4" dowels should be used. As a result, any drill bit larger than 1/4" will not fit into the 1/2" material holes.

*NOTE: The jig is set up to be used with 1 1/2" length dowels for 3/8" & 5/16". For 1/4" dowels, the dowel length is set for 1 1/4". Should you be using 1/4" dowels that are NOT 1 1/4" long, you will need to consider this if you don't want excess space in your dowel holes.
