Walnut, Cherry, & Maple End-Grain Cutting Board
DESCRIPTION
Beautiful end-grain cutting board that will keep your knives sharp, and your board in good order for a LONG time. End-grain cutting boards work by enabling your knife to slice between the fibers of the wood, rather than chopping through them, which can cause significant wear. This helps the board maintain its appearance and flatness over time. Favored by professional chefs, these cutting boards are often more expensive because flattening and sanding end grain requires greater effort than other types of wooden boards.
These boards are crafted from carefully selected Cherry, Hard Maple, and Walnut pieces to ensure both beauty and durability. Everything is made by hand in my small, 2-car garage shop in the USA.
I finish my boards with Bumblechutes All-Natural Wood Finish, which is, of course, food-safe. This is a combination of tung oil, citrus solvent, and gum rosin and provides a much more durable finish than many other cutting board producers use. Mineral oil and beeswax are one such popular finishing option
as it is fast and easy to apply. However, I have found this combination to wash off with soap as easily as if it were never put on, leaving the owner needing to constantly oil the board. Bumblechutes, on the other hand, fully cures leaving a hard layer that is highly waterproof and requires less maintenance.
Applying three layers of a tung oil-based finish also takes significantly longer, as 24 hours are required between coats. In my opinion, this finish also does a much better job of enhancing the natural colors of the wood.
NOTE: Tung oil is derived from tung seeds, which are closely related with nuts. Thus, there is potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals. If this a concern for you, please reach out and we can discuss using a different finish.
If you have any other questions, please, feel free to message me on Etsy! I take a lot of pride in what I do and I want you to be happy with your board! If you'd like, I can also do a video inspection prior to you making your purchase.
